Dr. Jo Michael "JM" Maniwan

MD, DPBO

Dr. JM Maniwan, a native of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Santo Tomas. He completed his Ophthalmology residency and pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Rizal Medical Center in Manila.


Dr. JM Maniwan comes from a distinguished family of eye care professionals, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Dr. Consorcio Maniwan Sr., his father, Dr. Jojo Maniwan, and his sister, Dr. Jan Mikaela Maniwan, all optometrists at Maniwan Optical Clinic. His aunt and uncle, Dr. Cynthia Maniwan Caterio and Dr. Nandy Maniwan, along with his late uncle, Fr. Danilo Maniwan, have also made notable contributions to the field. Dr. JM elevates the family’s legacy as the first ophthalmologist in his lineage.

The frequency of visits to an ophthalmologist can vary based on your age, eye health, and any existing conditions. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Children: At least once before age 5, then every 1-2 years.
  • Adults (ages 18-64): Every 2 years if you have no vision problems; annually if you wear glasses/contacts or have risk factors (like diabetes).
  • Seniors (65 and older): Annually or as recommended based on individual health needs.

If you have specific eye issues or a family history of eye disease, more frequent visits may be necessary. Always follow your eye care professional's recommendations!

We currently do not accept health plans but discounts are available.

We also accept PhilHealth for surgeries.

No, eye examinations are generally not painful. You might experience some minor discomfort, like slight pressure when your eye is being tested or a brief sensation when drops are used to dilate your pupils. However, these sensations are usually mild and temporary.

Anesthetic eye drops are also ready for procedures associated with mild discomfort.
